Simple Advice for Sleepy New Moms

Spread the love

As you may know from reading some of my previous posts, my husband and I are expecting our first baby in March 2018. The new year is right around the corner and my third trimester has officially started (thank goodness), and I’ve been receiving so much kind and generous advice for when baby gets here! Yesterday, however, I heard some of the best advice I’ve heard so far as an expecting mom. And it’s for your poopiest days (literally)…

Now, don’t get me wrong, almost all of the advice I’ve gotten has been helpful (almost all – haha), but for some reason, this little tidbit seemed to resonate with me the most! And if you’re like me and you cherish your sleep and know that having a newborn means you’ll be giving up on that favorite necessity, then this is for you too!

So, here it is:

I was having a conversation with a girlfriend of mine whose daughter is about to turn two. We somehow got on the subject of blowout diapers (as you do) and late night messes that make the hours of 12AM-6AM seem like the longest hours in the day. Well, this brilliant lady told me she had the answer to early morning blowouts and I think she might be right.

This genius lady put her baby registry together and registered for 4 plastic mattress protectors and 4 sets of crib sheets – and I thought, well duh, you don’t wanna just keep using the same one, how boring! But she had much more intellectual things in mind than simply having a variety of designs to go with the nursery decor – she stacks 2-3 of the covers and mattress protectors!

So, she puts on a mattress protector then a crib sheet, then another mattress protector and crib sheet. And sometimes even a third one. That way, if there is a diaper blowout or other yucky mess in the middle of the night, she’s not stuck stripping the crib sheet, throwing it in the washer, AND putting another one on.

TA-DA!

Is this a revelation to anyone except me?? Am I only freaking out about this because I’m a first-time mom or does someone else think they can really benefit from this?!

If this only saves me three minutes of sanity and I don’t have to worry about cleaning a sheet BEFORE putting a sleepy baby back to bed, it’s worth it to me. That’s three minutes I can spend sleeping in my own bed instead of frantically putting a new crib sheet on at 3AM.

I hope y’all find this snippet of advice useful, and pass it on to your friends!
